From the moment we arrived at Casa Ivan we loved it! What an amazing welcome and what a fabulous place to stay. We could not have asked for more, Casa Ivan is a beautiful property the gardens and pool AND views are to die for. We also married in Cortona while we were staying there, and returned to a feast fit for a King arranged by the hosts. We would not nor could not return to Tuscany AND NOT stay at Casa Ivan, it is a magical place with a kind a heart warming family who run it and to them we want to say a big thank you for making our holiday and our wedding banquet at the villa so special. 10/10 from all of us. Positives: nice grounds, clean apartment, ample space in the apartment, very nice pool, very friendly owners.

Negatives: very loud street noise in road-facing apartments in the villa, some issues with hot water heater (fixed quickly both times). [Owner Reply - The road going by the villa is close to the apartments but its a small country road with very little traffic.]

Good to Know: Confusing directions to the villa; property has two separate entrances. If you have a cell phone with you to call the owners as you get close, this would be probably be good. It is necessary to stock in all consumable items for kitchen & bath (soap, sponges, paper towels, toilet paper). The villa is a reasonable (5-10) minute walk from the pool, through lovely grounds.

We had a perferct stay at this place, the house is amazing and the pool the best. The gardener and poolmen was very nice. The surrounding is astonishing.

Villa Del Gallo Nero was ideal for our party of 8 celebrating an important birthday. The choice of rooms and levels meant we could all find space to read or relax quietly, whilst the main rooms and outside terrace are spacious enough to accommodate us all comfortably. Future guests need to bear in mind that the 2 first floor bedrooms are adjoined and one is only accessible through the other.
The villa is fairly remote and the views from the first floor lounge are stunning. The nearest bar and restaurant are not within easy walking distance but the terrace provides a perfect spot for barbequeing and evening drinks.
On our first night we had booked Chef Matisse (www.chiantichef.com) to cook for us at the villa. This was an excellent decision after a days travelling, and he provided us with sumptuous Tuscan fare, sparkling conversation and was a fabulous host for our first night.
Guests should also ensure they visit Daniela Bencini's vineyard (directly opposite the villa) for winetasting and warm hospitality. The crisp, white Mattutino is especially welcome after a days sightseeing!
One evening we visited the Barone Ricasoli Vineyard and sampled the tasting menu in the forest outside the castle. (Osteria de castello at Brolio) The food and the wine which accompanied it was amazing - quite an experience!
Finally all visitors must eat at least one meal at Marlboghetto in Lecchi. Simone is a fantastic host and the food is incredible. It was a great way to end our holiday! Lynn J.- North Shropshire, UK.
